Novices at San Damiano Friary recently visited with Sister Ruth CSF, at The Family Link, a ministry founded the Sisters of the Community of St. Francis.
The Family Link was founded in the early years of the AIDS crisis to provide low-cost or no-cost accommodations to families called urgently to San Francisco to be with critically ill family members in the early years of the AIDS crisis. Originally, families were housed at the Sister’s Convent. The need grew and in 1995, Family Link moved into its present location at 317 Castro Street. Today, The Family Link continues to provide housing for families, but has expanded to include families of patients with cancer, critical injuries, or other life-threatening illnesses.
This was the first opportunity for our current novices to view the work of The Family Link. They also visited with the rest of the Community of St. Francis, board members of The Family Link.
